Amberfold

An experiment in whether AI can actually write a working MMO. Some friends and I play these together for fun, and one of the games we played recently got shut down. Amberfold is my attempt at building something to replace it, with Claude doing most of the typing and me doing the steering. Very early stage.

About this project

A few friends and I live in different places, so Discord is where we hang out. We chat away on there while we play MMOs together, and it has become a nice way to stay in touch. One of the games we played got shut down recently, which made me a bit sad, and it got me thinking: could I just build one myself with Claude doing most of the heavy lifting?

Amberfold is the answer to that question, or at least the attempt. Right now it is a tiny demo. A character walking across a bit of terrain with grass and trees. It actually looks nice. Getting even that working was harder than I expected. Claude does not see very well, so anything graphical is slow going.

This is a background project that I expect to run for a long time, and more experiment than product. The shape I would love to get to is a small MMO with an AI dungeon master, where me and my friends explore a world the AI has built and is still building, with missions and scenarios it has put together while we were not looking. That way we still get the surprise of finding something new, without me having to scope and author every quest.
