kindle-dashboard

I had an old Kindle sitting around and decided to turn it into a home dashboard rather than let it become e-waste. It shows the local weather for now, the next six hours, and the next five days, on e-ink, on a stand in the living room. Other AIs on the server can push content to it, and there is a slot reserved for notifications and important todos.

About this project

I had an old Kindle sitting in a drawer and it seemed a waste to let it become e-waste. So I turned it into a little home dashboard. It now sits on a stand in my living room, showing the current time and the local weather: now, the next six hours, and the next five days. E-ink, slow to update, which suits it perfectly.

There is almost certainly a sharper or newer way to do this, but I had the device already. Using what I have rather than buying something new felt like the right answer. It is simple, and it works.

One of the things I like is that it is wired into the rest of the server, so other AIs can push content to it when they need to. There is also a slot on the page reserved for notifications and really important todos. That bit isn't wired in yet, but when it is, it will probably pull from something like my whatthreethings app or my calendar.
